HIV TESTING & OUTREACH
HIV TESTING & OUTREACH
From the very beginning, Friends-Together brought free HIV testing and outreach directly to the community. Before becoming a 501(c)(3), we organized testing in local bars, churches, civic organizations, and at Florida Southern College, ensuring that families infected and affected by HIV had easy access to critical health services.
Once officially recognized as a testing site, Friends-Together offered monthly testing at the college and routine testing at community events, combining counseling, STD testing, and education. Outreach went beyond testing: we brought information, meals, music, and fun activities to underserved neighborhoods, creating events that were both welcoming and educational.
Volunteers played a central role. Many were trained to administer tests, provide counseling, and deliver community education, helping thousands gain knowledge about HIV prevention, care, and available social support programs. During World AIDS Day week and other special events, these efforts expanded to reach even more people, strengthening awareness and connection throughout Central Florida.
